On December 18, 1998, led by the Republican Party, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach the President of the United States, William Jefferson Clinton.

On December 12, 2000 the U.S. Supreme Court voted 5 to 4 to award the presidency to G.W. Bush. The reason? Counting contested ballots would be unfair to Mr. Bush.
